The simplest solution I could find was to disable the problematic adapter before playing any game.
#Torchlight game creation failed software#
In my case this was caused by the Virtualbox network adapter, although it also seems to be common with other software adapters such as Hamachi. Torchlight 1 brought an old-school role-playing dungeon crawler experience when it first came out in 2009 and now, three years later, Runic Games has arrived with a long awaited sequel, in the. They then connect using the wrong network adapter and only see that adapter's own network/subnet. Just keeps saying connection failed again.

Something is very wrong here, but I have no clue where to look. The problem seemed to be that the games don't properly handle my PC having multiple network adapters. We try all manner of rebooting steam/Torchlight 2 and finally she can connect to me. no new gear, about 1200 XP), and now the "Alt" key problem had returned. The next day, I used the "Continue" option, only to be back with a previous character, right after entering the mine for the first time (i.e. I played a new character for a while and then quit the game from the menu. The "Alt" key issue resolved itself after reinstalling. Instead of item names showing when I pressed the "Alt" key, they were permanently showing, and only disappeared while I was holding the "Alt" key. Sometime during gameplay, the "Alt" key's function was reversed. After checking in the "Load Character" screen, I realised that my character no longer existed!

However, when I tried to use the "Continue" option the next day, it kept going to the "New Character" screen. Answer George222 (2) Replied on OctoIf you ' do a google ' it appears you are not alone. What can happen, however, is that you can make an item so rare (see 'Rarity HC' in the pic) that it will never spawn. I played to level 8 and then quit for the evening. Re: Item creation help So, whenever you create an item, such as a sword or chestplate, unless you click the 'DONTCREATE' button in Flags, your item will spawn in the course of things.

I am a Windows 7 user, and the game already automatically created the folders above, but my save games don't match up. \Users \%USERNAME% \AppData \Roaming \runic games \torchlight \mods My Torchlight games aren't saving properly. \Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\application data\runic games\torchlight\modsĭeMignon: Btw, there's a typo in your paths -) You obviously manually created this: \Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\application data\runic games\torchlight\saves \Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\application data\runic games\torchlight Win XP/2000 users would have to create the following: \Users \%USERNAME% \AppData \Roaming \runic games \torchlight \mods \Users \%USERNAME% \AppData \Roaming \runic games \torchlight \saves \Users \%USERNAME% \AppData \Roaming \runic games \torchlight Giving your user admin rights should create it as expected (or not, the cause of the problem is still unclear):ītw, there's a typo in your paths -) You obviously manually created this: Running it with an admin account would create the folders in this users profile:Ĭ:\users\ ADMIN-USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\ There's a difference in running the game with admin rights or with an admin account. It doesnt give platform error anymore, I suppose because they updated proton according the use of. Good question, why the folders weren't created. Finally the game works again thanks to the new proton update. Why the game running as administrator wasn't smart enough to create these folders itself is beyond me.ĭarthbooji: Finally figured it out. Ultimately, I realized that one of the files the game created in AppData/Roaming/Runic Games/Torchlight/ was a game log (Ogre.log), and it included errors about the game failing to save to the above path +/Save/, so I manually created that path (and /mods/ which it apparently needs, too) and now it works.Ĭ:/users/USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/Runic Cames/Torchlight/Ĭ:/users/USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/Runic Cames/Torchlight/saveĬ:/users/USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/Runic Cames/Torchlight/mods It kept coming up with the same error about AppData even after I did that, so I guess the registry key is meaningless. I also tried changing the save path in the registry to be c:/games/torchlight/saves.

I had to kill the process from Task Manager. In fact, it wouldn't start with WinXPSP3 compatibility mode turned on at all. I tried running it in compatibility mode, with no luck. Tried everything you all suggested, with no luck (I had tried the "run as administrator" thing already, but not installing somewhere else).
